We invite you to join us at McKinley Community School for Adults. We are in the midst of transforming our adult education program by embracing the new Workforce Investment Opportunities Act through collaborative partnering with the Department of Labor, Department of Human Services, University of Hawaii Community College System, Department of Public Safety (Corrections), and the City and County of Honolulu. We envision a seamless delivery of services to our students as we jointly prepare them with the necessary skills to succeed in college or careers. Currently, our initiatives for the school year include: incorporating the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards for Adult Education into the curriculum; piloting the new national high school equivalency testing program by the Educational Testing Services (ETS) called HiSet; administration of Hawaii?s Parapro examinations and preparatory courses for DOE educational assistants as well as outside agency aides; expansion of our partnership with the Community College?s iCan career and workforce certification program on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai; expansion of educational offerings for the Department of Public Safety (Corrections) to include the Kulani Correctional facility as well as the Hawaii Prison on the Big Island; and lastly, the piloting of TABE, a comprehensive academic assessment for adult basic education as an alternative to the current assessments. We believe these initiatives will provide the necessary foundation to meet the needs of today?s growing adult education population. We look forward to serving you at McKinley Community School for Adults.
